New Passport for Cameroon authorized by Presidential Decree

On June 17, 2021, the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya signed the Presidential Decree No. 2021/ 347 on the conditions of the issuance of passports.

This decree displays the conditions of issuance, as well as the procedures for obtaining the three types of biometric passports: the ordinary passport, the service passport and the diplomatic passport.

It also presents the technical innovations that are embodied in this new travel document, making it one of the most secure documents in the world nowadays. The technical security components exceed the requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The new passport will come into effect as of July 1, 2021 and introduces innovations in the enrolment process. Citizens applying for an ordinary passport will first complete the online pre-enrolment process with an online payment system.

The decree precisely outlines the design of the passport page by page. The sophisticated passport design features paintings of Cameroon’s different regions in its visa pages.

With this new passport, Cameroon is moving towards a modern and reliable infrastructure. The most striking example of this modernaization is the passport production within 48 hours.
